Join us on a three-day, intentional adventure through the canyons of the Rio Grande river in Big Bend, TX near the small town of Terlingua. Past participants tell us this is one of the most profound outdoor experiences they’ve ever had. It takes some effort to get to Big Bend, but it is more than worth it! There's something about how far away you are from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the dark night skies, and the immense wilderness stretching to the north and south of you as you either paddle, or float depending on dam releases and water levels, through some of the most awe-inspiring canyons in the world.
This is one of co-founder Stacy Bare’s, favorite places in the whole world!
River trips are great opportunities to bring along one or more of your close family or friends to explore the inner and outer landscape together!
You will start a couple weeks before the trip with a one-on-one intention setting session with one of our team.
We will adventure with you, providing gentle facilitation and an opportunity to speak, or just listen to others talk about their day. At the end we believe you will leave with greater joy, deeper connection, and a clearer understanding of your life now and what you want your life to be in the future.
After the trip, we will work with you to schedule another one-on-one integration session to figure out how we can help to make what you felt and learned on the adventure part of your daily life.
More information on what the river trip may look like-the outfitter will have the ultimate decision based off of water flow and dam release schedules is here: https://www.nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisit/river-trips.htm
Experience Level: None required. This is a great river for first time to advanced and expert white-water rafters. At this time of year, there may be a few solid class III rapids, though generally class II-enough for adrenalin and splashing with nothing to be too concerned about!
Fitness Level: Everyone is welcome on the river! Depending on waterflows you may be in a raft or a canoe. If you are concerned about your ability to sit upright and paddle during the day, this may not be the right trip for you. Most people tell us they are able to paddle.
If you have adaptive needs, we will work with you to ensure you feel comfortable and welcome on this trip. Please let us know about your concerns and we will see if we can mitigate them and get you on the river!
What is Included: The evening before you get on the river, we will provide accommodation and dinner in town. Then you will have two nights and three days on the river. All your food and snacks will be taken care of, as well as soft drinks and water. Some adult beverages will be available. The outfitter will provide a helmet and personal flotation device, as well as a paddle if and when you want to paddle! They will also provide both a day and trip dry bag to take care of all your equipment.
Sleeping bags and tents can be provided on request. A full packing list will be sent to you once you are registered.
We can also provide camping accommodation the night after the trip, or help you find hotel accommodation if necessary.
A shuttle will be available to and from Midland / Odessa, TX, the nearest airport if you need it. Terlingua, where the boat house is, is about three hours from the Midland / Odessa airport.
Two Weeks Early: The trip begins two weeks before you arrive when we will schedule your in-person intention setting with one of our team.
Day 0: You will arrive in Terlingua, TX in time for dinner, a pre-trip meeting and a good night’s sleep! If you are driving or want to make a larger adventure, give yourself time to stop in and tour Marfa, TX on your way from the airport or wherever you’re coming from! If you can’t make it for dinner, no worries, we’ll leave a light on for you!
Day 1: We will put into the river after meeting with our guides and getting all the gear we need for the river, including helmets, paddles, and personal flotation devices! All your food to include three meals and snacks, are included while you are on the river.
Day 2: River time!
Day 3: We will take out of the river sometime mid-day
You could fly out of Midland / Odessa late that evening or the following day.
Two Weeks Later: Two weeks or so after the trip we will again connect in person to talk about your experience on the adventure and how you can go about integrating any epiphanies you had on the trip into your daily life. This may mean figuring out how we support you in making any changes you feel are necessary, or just sharing favorite stories from the journey. We've found this integration to be exceptionally powerful, as well as necessary to ensure the adventure is more than a great memory!
Payment: All our prices are on a sliding scale. The recommended price for this trip is $3,750. The more who pay full price or more, the more we can offer discounts to others.
