Powder Paradise From Town, Back Country Skiing / Splitboarding0
Cooke City, MT
3 Day Backcountry skiing and splitboarding from town
February 19-22nd, 2022
(19th is a travel day, we begin skiing on the 20th. We head back to airport in evening of the 22nd)
This is the trip that ultimately gave birth to Happy Grizzly Adventures. We couldn't be more excited to be going back to Cooke City, MT, about three hours from Bozeman, MT. We partner with Ben Zavora and his team at Bear Tooth Powder Guides. This is truly a world class operation. Cooke City never disappoints for skiing and split boarding. We will start the morning of February 20th around 8am at the Beartooth office in town.
Each day depending on weather and conditions we may ski as one or separate groups to account for different ability levels and getting to know one another. We will ski from town or may travel via snowmobile or vehicle to another area including Yellowstone National Park. Ratios will be 1:4 guide to skiers. Each group will also have a Happy Grizzly Staff as one of the participants. Each day we will ski different terrain before coming back to town for dinner and evenings in the hotel.
It is very likely we will be the only skiers where we go. We will also teach you a little about the fantastic Yellowstone ecology and learn a bit about the Grizzly Bears who make the region home. A more formal packing list will be sent when you register, but here is a basic list:
We hope to ski with you soon!
Experience Level: If you are comfortable skiing all blue runs and some blacks, welcome to join us. No previous backcountry experience is necessary--but before you come you should get yourself familiar with, and have with you on the trip: skins, an avalanche probe, shovel, and beacon. No formal avalanche training is required before you come.
Fitness Level: You need to be able to spend all day walking up and down on skis. If you do need a break, or feel like staying in one day, you are welcome to use the space and time as you wish!
What is Included: Four nights of hotel lodging and all guiding, starting Mar 30 in Cooke City, MT. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, as well as two dinners. You will be able to have individual or double hotel rooms at the Elk Horn Lodge in Cooke City (https://www.elkhornlodgemt.com/) each night. A shuttle will be available to and from Bozeman, MT, the nearest airport if you need it. If you need to rent skis or a split board, or avalanche beacon, probe and shovel we can help you arrange the necessary gear rental.
Two Weeks Before Arrival: The trip begins two weeks before you arrive when we will schedule your in-person intention setting with one of our team.
Day 0: You will arrive in Cooke City, MT in time for dinner, a pre-trip meeting and a good night’s sleep! If you can’t make it for dinner, no worries, we’ll leave a light on for you!
Day 1: Backcountry skiing and split boarding!
Day 2: Backcountry skiing and split boarding!
Day 3: Backcountry skiing and split boarding!
Day 4: The trip will end after breakfast. If you would like to spend another day of guided skiing we can connect you to the guides.
Two weeks after trip: Two weeks or so after the trip we will again connect in person to talk about your experience on the adventure and how you can go about integrating any epiphanies you had on the trip into your daily life. This may mean figuring out how we support you in making any changes you feel are necessary, or just sharing favorite stories from the journey. We've found this integration to be exceptionally powerful, as well as necessary to ensure the adventure is more than a great memory!
